This is a great cut out sugar cookie recipe that actually tastes delicious. They are great on their own but amazing with the cream cheese icing.

Ingredients for Cookies
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
Directions for Cookies
- Cream butter and sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer.
- Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl while butter and sugar are combining.
- Add egg and vanilla to butter sugar mixture until combined. Slowly add the dry ingredients until fully incorporated.
- Turn dough onto plastic wrap and refrigerated for an hour.
- Once chilled preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Lightly flour counter and roll dough out to 1/4 – 1/2 inch thick and cut with desired cookie cutters.
- Place on parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.
- While cookies are cooling make the icing.
Ingredients for Icing
- 4 ounces cream cheese
- 1 stick of butter
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
- 2 1/2 cups of powdered sugar
Directions for Icing
- Cream room temperature butter and cream cheese in the bowl of a stand mixer.
- Add vanilla and lemon juice and mix until incorporated.
- Add powdered sugar and mix on low speed until loosely combined.
- Increase mixing speed to medium and mix for 5 minutes.
- Decorate cookies as desired.
